Live in the Now

Having a routine is comforting. I do the same things day after day: wake up at the ungodly time of 6:15 AM, go to school, come home, do homework, blah blah. Looking back at my freshman year of high school though, there are very few noteworthy happenings that I remember vividly. My whole school year feels like one really long monotonous school day. I feel like I’ve been sleepwalking through freshman year, only looking forward to the end of it and not appreciating what’s happening in my life right now.

Longing for the summer is completely normal and relieving. But if there comes a point when your whole day is consumed with thinking about the future, then what’s the point of the present? What could you be doing with your life instead of counting down the days until school ends? Busy yourself with activities. Spend more time with friends and family. I always thought that I’d never leave my parents so soon, but in three short years I’ll be preparing to go to college! Try things you’ve never tried before. Learn how to cook, try new foods, start a blog, or pick up a new instrument. Busying yourself with things you’re interested in takes your mind off of the future and allows you to appreciate the present. You’l find that each day is so much more colorful.

Savor every moment. We don’t always need to look ahead.
