Owl Fruit Platter

I wanted to make something for a party my brother was going to. Party food is all loaded with sugar and fat and junk, so why not bring fruit? And why not put a fun twist on the fruit and make it an owl fruit platter?

This platter is super simple. I’m using apples and blueberries for eyes, strawberries for wings, pineapples for the stomach, and grapes for the forehead, eyebrows, and feet. But you can take lots of liberties and use any kind of fruit you like.

Start off your base layer with the wings. I placed two layers of sliced strawberries on either side of the tray. Next, chop up your pineapple into little segments, each about an inch long. Place two layers of pineapple pieces in between the wings to mimic feathers. Then, arrange one layer of green grapes into an owl face on top of the wings and stomach.

Time for the eyes!! Peel one apple and slice it almost to the core on each side. These are the eyeballs. To make the pupils, dig a little hole in the center of each apple slice and place blueberries in them. For the beak, take the best looking strawberry slice you got and put it in between the eyes. It should look something like this so far:

We’re almost done! Now it’s time to add the fine details, but before you do that, feel free to add more layers of fruit to the owl. I added a second layer of green grapes. Take some red grapes and line them around the eyes for the brows, and slice six red grape halves for the feet. If you want your owl to have ears, use two strawberry slices and place them on either side of your owl’s head.

AND NOW FOR THE FINISHED PRODUCT:

TA-DAAAA!! The perfect owl fruit platter for any occasion! It’s so much healthier than any of that party food junk. Pineapples have great anti-inflammatory benefits and strawberries are a great source of good ole Vitamin C, while grapes are loaded with antioxidants called polyphenols. Apples have lots of dietary fiber, and blueberries have potassium and antioxidants (even though there’s only two blueberries but whatever haha.)

Enjoy!
